More Than Just Dreams – SYSTEMS for Achieving Your Barrel Racing Goals

More Than Just Dreams – SYSTEMS for Achieving Your Barrel Racing Goals

I came across this quote the other day from Jim Rohn…

“I find it fascinating that most people plan their vacations with better care than they plan their lives. Perhaps that is because escape is easier than change.”

It IS easy, isn’t?

To just keep doing what we’re doing, all without getting 100% clear on where we’re going, what we need to DO and who we need to BE to get there.

Change is hard. But what’s harder in the long run is not growing, not progressing and rising to meet your potential, and that of your horse’s.

Which is why we all must get in the habit of being very intentional and purposeful when it comes to being who we were put on this Earth to be.

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” – Anais Nin

With the help of structural support systems, we can stay focused and avoid the painful roller coaster of frustration or regret.

Instead, I encourage you to use the tips and ideas I’ve shared in the video below as guidance and inspiration to create your own “systems” for getting and STAYING on the fast track to BIG TIME barrel racing success! Read more

I’m on a mission to seek and destroy!

Specifically the roadblocks that are holding YOU back from achieving the barrel racing success you so deeply desire.

Now let me begin by assuring you that I’m ALL for focusing on the positive, accentuating what’s going well, and for polishing up you and your horse’s pre-existing talents and skills.

But I’m also a realist.

“The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.” – William Arthur Ward

I don’t want you keep riding around the arena without a realistic understanding of WHY you’re not clocking, and specifically what you need to DO to change that.

I want to be brutally honest with you.

You know something’s wrong after checking in to an extended stay hotel, and your grocery list includes fly fogger, ant bait, 409, and bleach.

No, chasing your dreams ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes there’s dirt, grime, bugs, or worse!

Like the quote from Danielle Laporte below says…

“Following your intuition ain’t always an act of grace — it can be a total grind. You will have to burn things. You might sweat, toil and dig dig dig to do what you know must be done. Following your intuition might call on you to do the hardest thing you’ve ever done in your life.”

In my case, I had to scrub, scrub, scrub just to make my husband and I’s hotel room livable when we arrived to Texas last year.

In honor of the completion of my second book, today’s post is one I resurrected from the email archives to share the lessons gained during our cross country move, including similar insights that seem to be occurring all over again recently, in hopes that they will serve you as you make YOUR barrel racing dreams come true!

We began our incredible voyage on February 7th, 2013 when we left frigid Wyoming in the rear view, and with a caravan including a rig with three head of horses, an affectionate Aussie riding shotgun, and another rig with a Pontiac on a flatbed, we headed south – to stay.

“If you want your life to have impact, focus it! Stop dabbling. Stop trying to do it all. Do less. Prune away even good activities and do only that which matters most. Never confuse activity with productivity. You can be busy without a purpose, but what’s the point?” – Rick Warren

As we embark on a new year, are you full of renewed energy and enthusiasm for what lies ahead?

OR have some obstacles already presented themselves?

If you followed last month’s suggestions for determining what you want to BE, DO and HAVE to make your new year desires reality, then you might have created a plan of action steps and specific areas of learning to focus on.

Ditching “goals” and embracing desires does loosen things up a bit when it comes to all this planning.  It creates a little more flexibility and releases the attachment to the end results.  It means we stay true to our personal path, even IF changes course throughout the year.

Creating desires (instead of goals) also comes with the realization that through releasing such tight control on the future – we’re actually opening our lives up to success and experiences that are quite possibly even beyond our wildest dreams!

However, just because we’re not quite as controlling and rigid, doesn’t mean that we’re not specific, or that we don’t write things down and create structure to set ourselves up for success.

After all, the key to happiness and fulfillment is dependent upon the choices we make and how we spend our time.

Ugh.
